Differential Diagnosis
Urethritis
- Caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, HSV, Candida sp, irritants (eg contraceptive gel)
- Relatively more common if a woman has had a new sex partner or sex partner has urethral symptoms, past history of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and symptoms (vaginal discharge, odor, dysuria) were of gradual onset
- Suggested by the presence of vaginal discharge or odor, pruritus, dyspareunia, external dysuria and no increased frequency or urgency
Others
- Interstitial cystitis, PID, structural urethral abnormalities, obstructive pyelonephritis
