Namun beberapa diantaranya disebabkan oleh bakteri yang bila tidak ditangani dengan tepat akan berkembang lebih lanjut menjadi otitis media yang melibatkan organ telinga. Untuk itu penggunaan antibiotik, khususnya obat golongan sefalosporin generasi ketiga dinilai memiliki efektivitas yang baik dalam mengatasi infeksi bakteri pada saluran pernapasan, termasuk strain yang resisten.
