- Sultamicillin tosylate (Silgram) is a prodrug of ampicillin and of the beta-lactamase inhibitor sulbactam. It consists of the two compounds linked as a double ester. During absorption from the gastrointestinal tract it is hydrolysed, releasing equimolar quantities of ampicillin and sulbactam1.
