  • Sultamicillin tosylate (Silgram) is a prodrug of ampicillin and of the beta-lactamase inhibitor sulbactam. It consists of the two compounds linked as a double ester. During absorption from the gastrointestinal tract it is hydrolysed, releasing equimolar quantities of ampicillin and sulbactam1.
  • Ampicillin sodium/Sulbactam sodium (Silgram) is an injectable antibacterial combination consisting of the semisynthetic antibiotic ampicillin sodium and the beta-lactamase inhibitor sulbactam sodium2.
  • Ampicillin sodium/Sulbactam sodium (Silgram) may be administered by either the IV or the IM routes2.
  • Ampicillin sodium/Sulbactam sodium (Silgram) is indicated in the treatment of community acquired pneumonia; infection of the upper urinary tract, intra-abdominal, gynaecological and skin and soft tissue infections. Prophylaxis to reduce the risk of infections following abdominal surgery2.
