Overview of hair loss

Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, is a common problem that affects up to 50% of both men and women before the age of 50. It is important to establish an accurate diagnosis before deciding the treatment options for patients. The management therapies described here will focus on pharmacologic treatment for some of the common alopecias encountered in the community: androgenic alopecia, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium and tinea capitis.
