Gangliosides and cognition: An appraisal of the evidence
01 Sep 2018

Gangliosides and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) play critical roles in early childhood brain development. GM3 synthase deficiency is a devastating metabolic disorder that manifests as multiple impairments of the body system, particularly the central nervous system. It also demonstrates the critical role of gangliosides in ensuring optimal early brain development. Undernourished children are at risk of failing to reach their full developmental potential. While environment and socio-economic factors play a role in shaping childhood growth and development, ensuring healthy nutrition in pregnancy and throughout childhood is equally important.
