Compact ultrasound systems: Breaking down ‘walls’, improving patient access

Since its introduction in 1975, ultrasound imaging has played an important role in assisting clinical diagnosis. Ultrasound is a painless, noninvasive and radiation-free procedure that captures the images of soft tissues, which oftentime do not show up well on X-rays. This article discusses technological advancements in ultrasound imaging, focusing on recent advances in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) technology.
