TONSILLOPHARYNGITIS - ACUTE (PEDIATRIC)
Tonsillopharyngitis is the inflammation of the tonsils and pharynx.
Etiologies include bacterial and viral pathogens.
Sore throat is the most common presenting symptom in older children.

Response to Therapy

  • Clinical response is usually evident within 24-48 hours
  • Persistence beyond 48 hours may indicate alternative causes or development of suppurative complications which warrants reassessment

Management of Complications

  • All abscesses should be drained
  • Tonsillectomy if patient has a history of recurrent tonsillitis
  • Acute tonsillectomy without prior incision
