Rosacea Signs and Symptoms
Definition
- Chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease of the convexities of the central face (cheeks, chin, nose and central forehead) with periorbital and perioral skin sparing
- Condition attributed to chronic vasodilation
- Remissions and exacerbations are common
- Typically begins after 30 years but may occur at any age, commonly affects fair-skinned individuals
Signs and Symptoms
- Common presenting symptoms: Facial flushing, stinging/burning sensation, erythema, telangiectasia, edema, papules, pustules, ocular lesions, hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands of the nose with fibrosis (rhinophyma)
- History of episodic flushing often heralds onset of rosacea
