A picosecond alexandrite laser (PSAL) appears to be superior to Q-switched alexandrite laser (QSAL) for the treatment of nevus of Ota, as shown by its better clinical results and fewer adverse events, according to a study.
Noninvasive and low-tech procedures can be used to easily and quickly estimate the Ocular Surface Frailty Index (OSFI), which appears to predict the onset of postoperative dry eye disease (DED) symptoms, according to a recent study.
Atropine 0.05% has double the efficacy of 0.01% eye drops over 2 years, and the former remains the optimal concentration among atropine concentrations in slowing the progression of myopia, a recent study has shown.
Gravitational displacement of submacular haemorrhage (SMH) after pars planar vitrectomy appears to be an effective intervention, particularly in combination with subretinal tissue plasminogen activator and intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor, a recent study has found.
Thinning of the peripapillary inferior-temporal retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) may be an early sign of neuroretinal degeneration in diabetics without diabetic retinopathy (DR), a recent study has found.

Antimicrobial resistance has become increasingly dire as the rapid emergence of drug resistance, especially gram-negative pathogens, has outpaced the development of new antibiotics. At a recent virtual symposium, Dr Hsu Li Yang, Vice Dean (Global Health) and Programme Leader (Infectious Diseases), NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, presented epidemiological data on multidrug-resistant (MDR) gram-negative bacteria (GNB) in Asia, while Dr Tan Thuan Tong, Head and Senior Consultant, Department of Infectious Diseases, Singapore General Hospital (SGH), focused on the role of ceftazidime-avibactam in MDR GNB infections. Dr Andrea Kwa, Assistant Director of Research, Department of Pharmacy, SGH, joined the panel in an interactive fireside chat, to discuss challenges, practical considerations, and solutions in MDR gram-negative infections. This Pfizer-sponsored symposium was chaired by Dr Ng Shin Yi, Head and Senior Consultant of Surgical Intensive Care, SGH.
