Insomnia Management
Follow Up
Clinical reassessment should be done every few weeks and/or every month until insomnia resolves, then every 6 months thereafter
- Follow-up during early stages of treatment is important to assess effectiveness, possible adverse reactions, dependence, tolerance and the need for continuing treatment
- Repeated use of self-administered questionnaires and survey instruments help in assessing outcome and in determining the need for further treatment
- Monitor sleep onset latency, sleep duration, sleep satisfaction and daytime functioning
- Consider reevaluation for comorbid disorders when behavioral therapies, pharmacological therapies and combined treatments have been ineffective
- Consider referral to a sleep specialist if without improvement
