CONJUNCTIVITIS - VIRAL
Viral conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the conjunctiva of viral etiology.
Signs and symptoms include unilateral or bilateral eye redness, foreign body sensation and follicular conjunctival reaction.
It may be caused by adenovirus, herpes simplex or molluscum contagiosum.

Patient Education

Adenovirus

  • Explain the natural history of the disease, particularly its highly infectious nature
  • Educate the patient & family about proper hygiene

Herpes Simplex Virus

  • Explain the natural history of the disease, particularly its potentially recurrent nature
  • Educate the patient & family about proper hygiene

Molluscum Contagiosum

  • Explain that the conjunctivitis & the keratitis are due to the viral shedding from the eyelid lesions unto the surface of the eye
  • Lesions may spontaneously resolve but can persist for month-year
