Thrombocytopaenia prior to therapy may be used as a predictor of postoperative relapse (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.53) in hepatocellular carcinoma patients, a review and meta-analysis presents. Moreover, low platelet count may also be beneficial in predicting intrahepatic distant recurrence (HR= 1.49). Additional studies are necessary to support this evidence.
